7 Wonders of the Week: 2/27 - 3/5
Hi friends, did you have a great week? I went on a little trip to Texas hill country over the weekend for a friend’s wedding and it is always such a breath of fresh air to remember the people in our lives who fill it with love!
What moments were special to you this week? Here’s a few of mine:
Monday, 2/27: Recommitting to morning pages.
I have written about the importance of morning pages previously. Julia Cameron writes about them in her famous book, The Artist’s Way, which I am re-reading now!
I have gone in and out with morning pages for years, but decided that I am committed to doing them every single day in March, so might as well start today. I can confirm, as I always do, that they are life changing for so many reasons. I hope I never forget this feeling of wonder with the joy of creating for no reason at all.
Tuesday, 2/28: Discovering White Buffalo Calf Woman.
I was doing some research today for Women’s History Month (in March!) for one of my clients’ social media accounts and came across the Native American legend of White Buffalo Calf Woman.
I was in awe of the story. I wish that our traditional schooling systems taught more about the indigenous people of America. We have so much to learn from their culture.
Anyways, the story goes that she appeared to some Lakota warriors in the Black Hills while they were out hunting, first as a white buffalo calf who then transformed into a beautiful woman. Upon being welcomed into the tribe, she taught the men how to treat women and Mother Earth with respect. She brought them the seven sacred ceremonies and encouraged them to come back home to their inner Knowing. A quote I found from her that really struck me as beautiful:
I have been enjoying learning about women and their role in moving humanity forward. Maybe you can be in wonder and use Google to learn about a new woman who made a meaningful contribution (there are so many from every culture and background to choose from!). Let’s always be learning.
Wednesday, 3/1: Inspired by the process of art-ing.
Speaking of Julia Cameron… I was so excited to open my podcast app this morning while I was getting ready to see that this wise woman was interviewed recently on the Rachel Hollis podcast. It was such a lovely episode and I felt so inspired by the process of being an artist and living a creative life.
Part of living a creative life, as Julia Cameron calls it, is the “Art of Noticing.” Which was a full circle moment for me back into wonder! The Art of Noticing is all about really taking in life as we know it, the trees, the sky, the smoothness of our coffee. Awe, the wonder!
I hope that you give the episode a listen and practice noticing something around you today. It truly is an art to live a life full of wonder.
Thursday, 3/2: Cauliflower clouds.
On Thursday I traveled to Texas with some close friends for our mutual friends’ wedding (like I mentioned above).
I looked out the window on the flight, which happened to be over some Texas thunderstorm and tornado weather, to see these beautiful, what I am calling, “cauliflower clouds.” LOOK AT THEM. Don’t you ever just feel like WOW, what a world we live in? I can’t believe that I am flying through the atmosphere right now. I can’t believe that is an option that exists for me at this time in history. I can’t believe that I get to experience this kind of wonder on a daily basis.
God is so creative it blows my mind. The Universe is the ultimate Muse.
Friday, 3/3: Instagram worthy spots.
My mom sent me an Instagram reel earlier in the week about Fredericksburg and a lake that was supposed to be super pretty. My friends and I were out exploring on Friday and just had the absolute best time! We stopped here and can confirm that it was beautiful!
It was the perfect spot for me to take in the awe of my own life. I am so grateful for the people I have built a community with and the abundance that allows us to get on a plane and travel together. We stayed in a small cabin together and all had the best time. It was perfect weather in a perfect place that had me very much in all of my nostalgic feels about the years I lived in central Texas.
Here's the lake. I have to admit – it was Instagram worthy.
Wonder, wonder everywhere.
Saturday, 3/4: Generous spirits.
My friends got married on Saturday and the resounding theme of the evening and the speeches were about how kind, big-hearted and generous the two getting married were. And they ARE!
I love being able to learn from my own friends and loved ones. I left the wedding asking myself:
How can I give more love to others?
How can I be more generous of spirit?
How can I leave a legacy of love?
I feel so grateful to have examples of this kind of expansiveness in my life and I am so blown away that these are the celebrations I am able to join in.
I think if we are on a path of constant growth, we will always have more to learn. Maybe we can start by looking at what is inside of our life and who is already here.
Sunday, 3/5: Reflections on Self.
I woke up kicking myself a little bit on Sunday because I felt like I said something that was not the kindest to one of my friends. It was out of fun and a spirit of joking around, but I woke up and thought: “Em, that was not your best self.”
As a recovering people pleaser, it can be so heartbreaking to see these things in yourself and difficult to not beat yourself up. I reminded myself that it is safe to be imperfect. It is safe to be learning. It is safe to f*ck up sometimes.
So wherever you are this week going forward, I hope that you give yourself a little grace and let yourself off the hook.
Love yourself while failing forward. Give yourself permission to have a human experience.
Each part of it is full of wonder.
You are made of love. And I am sending you love too.
Xoxo,
Em
