How to clear negative energy

Yikes, what a year, am I right?!

I watched the season premiere of “This Is Us,” last week, and I have to tell you it made me cry.

Not in the normal way that virtually every episode of that TV show makes me tear up. I mean, I CRIED ugly tears.

The premiere picked up in the beginning quarantine portion of COVID, with the George Floyd murder and the protests and all of the pain.

And I don’t know, you guys, but I FELT it more watching it the second time around. I know that none of this is close to being over. I know that COVID numbers are currently rising at a ridiculously high rate. I know that we are not even close to solving the social justice and equality issues that have been present in our country for hundreds of years.

But re-living it through watching this show, reminded me of the heaviness

As an enthusiast (#enneagram type 7), that’s not a comfortable place for me. Sitting with heavy, dark emotions ALONE is literally one of the most uncomfortable things, aside from feeling “boxed-in,” tied-down, and in any situation involving conflict and anger.

But if there’s anything this year has taught me, it’s this: I am stronger than I know. And sometimes it is healthy to sit in the discomfort. Alone. Just me and my feelings.

Deep breath. It’s ok. I’m ok. It is safe. I am safe.

Literally repeating this to myself right now as I sit here with my dog on a Friday night.

Listen, on a personal level, I’ve actually had a really good year. I feel super blessed. But if you’re an empath, like me, all of the energy in the world (especially a few days before the 2020 presidential election) can really take it out of you. Not only is it unsettling, it is disruptive to my nervous system.

So, if you need some practical tools for dealing with 2020, let’s talk energy.

Everything in this Universe is energy. You, me, the coffee table, this laptop I’m typing on. Every single thing is made of energy.

So sometimes, we need to move stuck energy and clear out what is old and stagnant. And what better time than right now?!

Here’s a few classic ideas for you to consider:

1) Use a sage “smudge” stick. Ok, quick story for you. When I was in college, I lived in this great apartment (my favorite apartment of all my temporary homes). There was some roommate drama and when one of my roommates moved out, and another moved in, something was still off. My mom and her best friend came into town around that time and decided that we needed to clear the energy of the old roommate. So, the 3 of us went down to the apothecary store in Fort Collins, bought some sage sticks, and proceeded to “smudge” the apartment. It was a whole ceremony. We blasted Janis Joplin, set the fire alarm off, AND restored the energy balance.

How to Smudge:

  • Sage is the most common herb used to smudge. It is known for purifying and clearing negative energy.

  • Buy a bundle of sage and place on a heatproof tray or plate (or even an ashtray). Light one end of it and allow to start burning. Blow on it to get smoke going. Spread the smoke around the area you want to smudge.

  • Research has shown that burning sage can remove 94% of bacteria in the air! This shit works. Smudge often and regularly to not only clean the air, but to create a peaceful and clear environment.

 2) Get you some Palo Santo (“Holy Wood”). Palo Santo is known for its healing properties and is thought to bring good energy into a space. Palo Santo is actually a South American tree, so you can buy a piece of it, hold it at a 45-degree angle, light it, and allow to burn for 1 minute maximum. When you blow it out, allow the smoke to waft around an area. Alternatively, I use Palo Santo spray and LOVE it! I use it when I am pulling angel cards, before meditation, or any other time I want to connect or raise my vibration. Here’s the spray I use. Use code PRIME10 for a discount.

3) Crystals. I’m not an expert on crystals, but I do believe they are powerful. Find ones that resonate with you and place them in key areas of your home. Black Tourmaline is known for removing negative energy. And salt crystals, such as those in Himalayan Salt Lamps, help dissolve negative ions and cleanse the air. Honestly, if you tune in, your soul will tell you what to do and what you need in your space. Never forget that you already hold all this wisdom within you.

For more ideas on clearing energy, I enjoyed this article and will especially be practicing the rainbow visualization!

Until next time, keep raising your vibration, no matter what it takes. Choose to be an instrument of peace, love, and light in this crazy world. We need you.

Big love + xoxo,

Em
